Sports Writers Association of Ghana Unveils Winners in 2024 Awards Spectacle

The prestigious 48th edition of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards unfolded at the Accra International Conference Centre on Friday, January 12, 2024.

Marking the longest-standing event in the nation, this ceremony aimed to recognize and honor the exceptional sportsmen and women who brought immense pride to the country throughout 2023.

Gary Al-Smith from The Multimedia Group claimed the coveted title of Sports Journalist of the Year for the remarkable year in review.

A standout on both the Black Stars and West Ham United, Mohammed Kudus emerged as the night’s major victor, clinching both the Sports Personality of the Year and the Foreign-based Footballer of the Year accolades.

The 23-year-old successfully defended his titles from the previous edition, surpassing James Dadzie to secure the Sports Personality of the Year award once again.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, serving as the special guest of honor, demonstrated unwavering support for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards. Even before the awards night, he generously contributed GH₵50,000 towards the 48th edition, underscoring his enduring commitment to acknowledging and fostering excellence in Ghanaian sports.

Notably, since 2022, Dr. Bawumia has actively endorsed two crucial award categories: Female Footballer of the Year and Sports Journalist of the Year. Winners in these categories were each granted GH₵10,000 from the Vice President’s benevolent contribution.
