Ghana’s defeat to Burkina Faso on Saturday in the third-place play-off makes it the fourth time the four times champions of Africa have failed to win the bronze medal in the AFCON which is unprecedented in history of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana were tied with Mali with three defeats each in the third-place play off, but Saturday’s lose has enabled Ghana to surpass their West African counterparts to set an infamous record.

Ghana have played in a total of five third place play-off and they have won just one and lost four of them
