I did labour works in Canada for 3 years after my divorce – Actress Portia Asare

Kumawood actress, Portia Asare has opened up on her struggles after she migrated to Canada to start a new life in search of greener pastures.

Recall the actress recently stated that she heaved a sigh of relief after her divorce was finalized from her ex-husband, Pastor John Wilberforce Aidoo.

She explained that she was unhappy in marriage, and divorce was the only option at the time.

She said: “My former husband was neither violent nor a womanizer, but we just didn’t click. I did what a wife would do to make her husband happy. My direction was different from his, so we could not make things work. I was married to him for five years but separated for two years, and we finally called it off.”

In a recent interview on the restoration show with Tracy Amoateng, she intimated that she had to move to Canada after her divorce but things didn’t turn out well for her as she had to resort to doing menial jobs there to survive.

In her words: “I will say that if I’ve had any challenge in my life, it’d be this moment. When I left the marriage, my family sat me down and said I needed to travel outside because when the media gets to hear of this, they’ll talk unnecessarily. So, I left the country,” she stated.

“That was when Portia’s life started as a baby. I had nothing, I needed to start all over again. I came to zero and had to pick myself up again; not from here but another country – Canada – and I had to work like a labourer,”
