For the upcoming Christmas season, the Ghanaian government has decided to ease travel requirements by temporarily lifting the need for pre-arrival visa applications.
Between December 1, 2023, and January 15, 2024, travelers heading to Ghana can obtain their visas upon arrival as part of the Beyond the Return agenda.
This decision, communicated through a circular from the Ministry of Transport to all airlines in the country, follows consultations among various government departments, including Foreign Affairs, Interior, Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Tourism Authority.
The circular states, “Passengers traveling to Ghana are approved to opt for visa-on-arrival, waiving the prior approval requirement.
This arrangement is effective from December 1, 2023, to January 15, 2024.”
To implement this change, the ministry requested that airline systems be updated to reflect the new arrangement. Those checking in passengers traveling to Ghana were also advised not to insist on entry visas before boarding.
