Rex Omar eyes political appointment

In a candid interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, iconic highlife musician Rex Omar, a stalwart member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) since 1992, expressed his willingness to accept a political appointment, citing his maturity and the potential to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s development.

 

 

“I will [accept a political appointment] because now I think I am of age, and if given any role within my capacity, I will positively contribute to the development of this country,” stated the seasoned artist during the Saturday, March 3, 2024 broadcast.

 

 

Rex Omar, an active participant in partisan politics, emphasized the importance of entertainers engaging in political affairs years ago. He urged his colleagues to steer away from the politics of insults and, instead, called for a focus on developmental projects that uplift the nation.

 

 

The Ghanaian highlife legend rose to fame in 1989 with his groundbreaking album “Aware Pa,” featuring the hit track “Wodofo Ne Hwan?” Over the years, Rex Omar has not only entertained but also contributed significantly to the music industry, winning accolades such as the Ghana Music Award for Best Contemporary Song of the Year in 2004. His impact extends internationally, earning him a nomination at the prestigious Kora Awards in the same year.
