From Trotro Mate to Star: Keche Joshua Shares Painful Childhood, Hustle Journey, and Passion for Street Children

In one of the most emotional parts of his interview, Keche Joshua opened up about his difficult upbringing, revealing how he lost his mother at a young age and grew up without consistent fatherly care due to his father being a seaman.

He shared that financial hardship forced him to drop out of school at SS1, after which he worked as a “trotro mate” before learning to drive taxis to survive and support his siblings.

Despite the struggles, he said in a one-on-one interview with host Abena Ghana on The Journey Show on Adom TV, that music found him naturally—from leading chants and songs during school football camps to realizing people were more drawn to his singing than his athletic ability.

Today, he says those experiences shape his humility and his deep concern for street children, admitting that he often becomes emotional when he sees them because it reminds him of his own past.

He also spoke about his belief in giving back to society, saying entertainment itself is a form of “gospel” when it brings joy, and encouraged young people not to be pressured by society but to embrace their natural path to greatness.
