Rev Ahenkan Bonsu, the ex-husband of gospel musician Esther Smith, has stirred conversation online after naming media personality Nana Aba Anamoah as his “ideal woman” during a recent interview.

Speaking on Radio XYZ Monitored by Blogger and Journalist Attractive Mustapha (Andre Mustapha ), Rev Ahenkan addressed long-standing allegations that he had intended to use spiritual means, including love charms, to win over Esther Smith at the time of their relationship. Dismissing the claims, he argued that if his intentions had been driven by fame or influence, he would have pursued someone else entirely.
According to him, Nana Aba Anamoah, who was then rising in prominence as a broadcaster on TV3, would have been his preferred choice. He pointed to her eloquence and on-screen presence as qualities that stood out during that period.
“Looking at that time, Esther was still new, but the kind of English Nana Aba was speaking on TV3, she would have been my preferred target because she was the epitome of a woman,” he said.
Despite the comparison, Rev Ahenkan emphasized that his eventual decision to marry Esther Smith was not based on status or public appeal. Instead, he credited her humility as the key factor that drew him to her.
He explained that a friend had encouraged him to consider local women rather than those abroad, highlighting Esther’s character. That recommendation, he said, ultimately led to their relationship and marriage.
The interview has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with many weighing in on his remarks about both women and the resurfacing of details surrounding the former couple’s past.
Rev Ahenkan and Esther Smith divorced nearly two decades ago, but public interest in their relationship continues to resurface whenever new revelations emerge.
