Reggie Rockstone opens up about quitting smoking and alcohol for health

Ghanaian rap legend Reggie Rockstone has revealed that he has stopped smoking and consuming alcohol as part of efforts to improve his health, particularly in managing asthma.

Speaking in a recent interview on Joy FM, the 62-year-old artiste said the decision forms part of broader lifestyle changes he has embraced as he grows older.

In a conversation with Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z, Rockstone explained that although he indulged in smoking and drinking in his younger years, he later chose to step away from those habits.

“I have done everything. I never did hard drugs, which I thank God for because I have a very addictive personality, so I am blessed in that sense. With the ganja, I tried all of that before,” he said.

He added that his struggle with asthma made it necessary to quit smoking entirely.

“At this point, being that I am asthmatic, I have no business smoking again. My father was heavily asthmatic, my son has asthma, so I had no business smoking anyway,” he stated.

Beyond quitting smoking and alcohol, the ‘Makaa Maka’ hitmaker also spoke about significant changes to his diet and daily routine. According to him, he has eliminated red meat and processed sugar from his meals and now pays closer attention to what he consumes.

“As I grew older, I became wiser. I had to make some drastic lifestyle changes because of the showbiz life where we moved around eating all sorts of things,” he noted.

Rockstone disclosed that he cut out red meat early in life and stopped eating pork in his teenage years on his own accord. He also highlighted the importance of hydration and fruit consumption, habits he says were influenced by his father.

“I have always drunk a lot of water because my father said so, and I have always eaten fruits,” he added, mentioning watermelon and pawpaw among his favourites.

The music icon further indicated that he maintains an active lifestyle through regular workouts, although he does not follow a strict health routine. He, however, emphasised the importance of being mindful of one’s diet.

According to him, people should treat their bodies with the same care they give to their cars, stressing that paying attention to nutrition and lifestyle choices is key to long-term wellbeing.
