2022 World Cup: Ghana in Pot 4 – Here’re the teams Black Stars could draw in group stage

-

Ghana finds itself in Pot 4 ahead of the final draw for the Qatar 2022 World Cup which will take place in Doha today, Friday, April 1, 2022.

The Black Stars booked their place at the World Cup following a pulsating 1-1 draw against Nigeria at the Mashood Abiola Stadium on Tuesday evening.

A first-half strike by Thomas Partey was cancelled out by a penalty from Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong as both teams shared the spoils in Abuja.

The result sealed Ghana’s qualification on away goals after the first leg ended in a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

So far, 29 out of the 32 participants of the tournament have been confirmed, with the remaining three spots still to be competed for.

As hosts, Qatar are placed in Pot 1, while the other 28 qualified teams are allocated pots based on the current FIFA rankings.

Aside from Qatar, the seven highest-ranked teams on the FIFA ranking are also placed in Pot 1. These are Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain and Portugal.

Pot 2 also contains Mexico, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA and Croatia, who are the next highest-ranked teams among the qualified lot.

Meanwhile, Pot 3 is made up of Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea and Tunisia.

Ghana is in Pot 4, alongside Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine, Peru/Australia/UAE and Costa Rica/New Zealand.

This means the Black Stars could draw any of the teams in Pots 1, 2 and 3, with the only exception being the teams from Africa.

To this end, Ghana is likely to draw either Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, England, Spain or Portugal from Pot one.

The West Africans will also certainly be in the same group with one of Mexico, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA or Croatia from Pot 2.

In Pot 3, the only teams Ghana cannot draw are Senegal, Morocco and Tunisia, but could draw one of Iran, Japan, Serbia, Poland and South Korea.

The 2022 World Cup will take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18.
