Thieves Break into Wanderlust Ghana’s Car in Germany; Passport and Wallet Stolen During Break-in

The adventurous team of Wanderlust Ghana, known for their groundbreaking road trip from Accra to London last year, has encountered a setback in their current journey. On Thursday, September 26, the group’s vehicle, a Toyota Tacoma, was broken into in Krefeld, Germany, leading to the loss of personal belongings, including a wallet and possibly a passport.

Kwame Peprah, a member of the team, shared details of the incident in a Facebook post on Friday, September 27. According to Peprah, his teammate Saka had alerted him about the break-in after being informed by the hotel receptionist. “Someone smashed the front window and took lots of stuff, including my wallet and possibly Kwame’s passport,” he wrote.

Peprah added that they are currently unable to touch the car until the police have completed their investigation. “At the moment, I’m sitting in a German police station waiting to file a report and go through the processes,” he shared.

One of the major concerns for the team is the potential loss of Kwame’s passport, which could jeopardize the remainder of the journey. “If Kwame’s passport was in the car, I’m sure we can get a new one issued at the embassy in Berlin, but the trip may be over for him because the other visas needed along the route will not be easy to reissue,” Peprah explained.

Wanderlust Ghana’s latest expedition, which began in Accra, is a 30-day, 30-country overland journey aimed at promoting Ghana’s tourism on the international stage. Supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the group has embarked on this 30,000-kilometre trip with plans to make major stops in Dubai and South Africa.

Despite the unfortunate incident, the group’s mission to market Ghana continues, as they push forward with their philanthropic and tourism-driven adventure.

Wanderlust Ghana gained widespread attention last year when they successfully completed a road trip from Accra to London, inspiring many with their spirit of adventure and love for Ghana. Their current journey, though interrupted, is a testament to their resilience and passion for promoting Ghana on a global scale.
