The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) officially unveiled the much-anticipated 2024 “December in GH” events calendar on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the iconic Castle Gardens in Osu, marking the start of what promises to be another unforgettable festive season. This year’s launch, which continues a tradition that began in 2019, is part of the Beyond The Return initiative—a flagship program designed to promote Ghana as a top destination for culture, entertainment, and tourism.

The event drew an enthusiastic crowd, including key stakeholders in the tourism industry, enthusiasts, and members of the diaspora eager to celebrate and explore Ghana’s vibrant cultural offerings. The Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Andrew Agyapa Mercer, officially launched the 2024 calendar, expressing his excitement about this year’s events and praising the leadership of GTA CEO Akwasi Agyeman for positioning Ghana as a global cultural and entertainment hub.

In his keynote address, Mr. Mercer emphasized the significance of the “December in GH” initiative, which has made Ghana the go-to destination for the last quarter of the year. “We are all hoping to have a peaceful election on December 7 and have a splendid Christmas celebrating the victory for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” the minister remarked, further highlighting the intertwined nature of cultural celebration and national pride.

Deputy CEO of General Services for the GTA, Ben Anane Nsiah, delivered a warm welcome address, reflecting on the impact of the “December in GH” initiative since its inception. He noted, “Over the past few years, we have made Ghana the entertainment capital of the world in the last quarter of the year.”

During the event, Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the GTA, provided attendees with an overview of the 2024 calendar, which includes 64 meticulously selected events out of 90 submissions. These events span a wide range of activities, from cultural showcases and educational experiences to nightlife, recreation, and community service initiatives. Mr. Agyeman applauded the efforts of the Beyond The Return Secretariat and other partners for their role in making Ghana a sought-after global destination.

He encouraged Ghanaians to participate in this year’s festivities, which aim to give Ghana a global appeal and ensure the success of all events, from scenic tours to vibrant nightlife experiences. “All events selected as part of the December in GH calendar undergo rigorous processes and deliberations by a steering committee to ensure that they are successful and enjoyable for everyone who attends,” Mr. Agyeman stated.

The 2024 “December in GH” events calendar promises to be a cultural extravaganza, offering a rich tapestry of Ghanaian heritage, adventure opportunities, culinary delights, and fashion trends. Visitors from around the world can look forward to an unforgettable experience that truly captures the essence of Ghana.
