Founder Changes Ghana Western Achievement and Excellence Awards to Ghana Western Achievement and Celebrities Awards

Sidney Washington Daniels, popularly known as UK Suge Knight, recently renamed his four-year-old regional awards scheme from the Ghana Western Achievement and Excellence Awards to the Ghana Western Achievement and Celebrities Awards. This change accompanies preparations for the 4th edition of the awards, scheduled for June 2025.

The acronym has also changed from GWAEA to GWACA.

Sidney’s reason for the name change was to place greater emphasis on celebrity honors, which had been less recognized in the previous scheme. According to Sidney, this shift will counter the perception that the awards were primarily focused on corporate entities and neglectful of western celebrities. By replacing “Excellence” with “Celebrities,” the scheme now highlights individuals making significant contributions to Ghana’s western region.

The Ghana Western Achievement and Celebrities Awards inherits all the categories from the previous scheme, with new categories added, including Ghana Western Most Beautiful and Handsome and Ghana Western Top Millionaire.

Like its predecessor, GWACA’s honor categories cover education, business, chieftaincy, hospitality, entertainment (music, movies, and sports), and other important sectors in the western region.

Sidney notes that GWACA aims to bridge the African diaspora and leaders of Ghana’s western region to promote tourism and investment, with a long-term vision.

GWACA will take place on June 28, 2025.

In the UK, Sidney Washington Daniels is in discussions with Dominic Brew Agyei about establishing the Ghana Central Achievement Awards, which will honor deserving individuals and corporate bodies in Ghana’s central region. Both Sidney and Dominic are British-Ghanaian citizens residing in the UK.
