Actress Lydia Forson Questions NPP’s Choice of Bawumia as Flagbearer

Award-winning actress Lydia Forson recently waded into the discussion regarding the New Patriotic Party’s selection of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its potential flagbearer for the 2024 elections.

In a tweet posted on Thursday, November 9, the social commentator expressed her puzzlement at the NPP’s choice of Bawumia, who is perceived to be part of the economic management team responsible for Ghana’s economic downturn.

Forson questioned the decision, stating, “The NPP’s selection of Bawumia as their flag-bearer is incredibly intriguing to me. How can they present a candidate whom many people believe is involved in the current economic crises we’re experiencing?”

She questioned whether the NPP’s decision was driven by “delusion” or courage, reflecting on the uncertainty surrounding their choice.

These comments emerged subsequent to the NPP’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia as the party’s leader for the upcoming general elections.

However, some have argued that, given Bawumia’s role as the head of the economic management team, his priority should be addressing the escalating inflation, currency depreciation, and widespread hardship before aspiring to the highest office.
