The Ghana Queen Mothers Foundation, in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), and Royal TV, has launched a nationwide campaign aimed at curbing hate speech in the political sphere.

 

 

The campaign, under the theme “Decency in Politics,” seeks to promote respect and civility in political discussions and discourage inflammatory rhetoric, especially during the election season.

At the campaign launch, Akwasi Agyeman, Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, highlighted Ghana’s reputation for peace and stability as a key attraction for tourists.

 

 

He stressed the importance of maintaining this peaceful image, stating, “People view Ghana as a beacon of peace, and we take pride in being one of the most peaceful nations in the sub-region.”

 

 

Agyeman further noted the potential risks posed by hate speech to the country’s peace, stating that political discourse must remain peaceful to avoid negatively affecting tourism, especially during the peak season.

 

 

“For tourism to thrive, there must be peace. Politics should not divide us; we must be able to share our ideas without hostility,” he said.

 

 

Nana Serwaa Brakatuo, representing the Queen Mothers Foundation, appealed to Ghanaians and the media to support the message of peace and unity during the election period.

 

 

“You have only one thumb for voting, so why resort to violence? Elections are not battles; they are expressions of opinion. As mothers and grandmothers, we care for our children and urge everyone to come together for peace, which is priceless.”

 

 

Ruth Amankwah Gyamfi, Second Vice President of MUSIGA and head of the Women’s Desk, applauded the Queen Mothers Foundation for taking a stand against hate speech.

 

 

She expressed her enthusiasm for women’s leadership in this initiative, saying, “I’m thrilled that our Queen Mothers are leading this campaign. Women are powerful agents of change, and when we rise, progress follows.”

 

The “Decency in Politics” campaign underscores the collective commitment of various institutions and organizations to safeguard Ghana’s peace and promote healthy, respectful dialogue throughout the election season.
