Botswana Declares National Holiday to Honour Olympic Gold Medalist Letsile Tebogo

The President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, has declared an afternoon day-off for all Batswana and residents on Friday, August 9th, 2024, to celebrate the historic achievement of Letsile Tebogo, fondly known as “Botswana’s Sensation.”

 

 

Letsile Tebogo recently made history as the first Motswana and the first African to win a gold medal in the 200m event at the Olympics. This remarkable achievement has captured the hearts of millions, and President Masisi has found it a fitting tribute to honour Tebogo’s outstanding performance by granting the nation this special day of celebration.
