Akwasi Agyeman, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has stepped down from his position, leaving behind a legacy of transformative achievements that have significantly boosted Ghana’s tourism sector and global reputation.
Appointed in January 2017, Mr. Agyeman played a pivotal role in steering the GTA through challenging times, including the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and championed its impressive recovery and expansion.
During his tenure, international tourist arrivals made a remarkable leap from 355,108 in 2020 to 1,148,002 in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. The domestic tourism sector also thrived under his leadership, with visitor numbers rising significantly from 456,000 in 2017 to 1.4 million by 2023.
