Counsellor Lutterodt in Legal Trouble, Appears in Court Today Over ‘Reckless’ Call to Exhume Daddy Lumba’s Body

Relationship counsellor Cyril George Lutterodt, widely known as Counsellor Lutterodt, is expected to appear in court on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, after his arrest over remarks authorities say could incite public unrest.

Lutterodt was taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service following the circulation of a viral video in which he allegedly urged Ga youth to exhume the body of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba from his East Legon residence.

According to reports, the controversial counsellor argued that burying the musician at what he described as an unapproved location on Ga land disrespected local traditions and authorities. In the video, he reportedly called for immediate action if what he considered the “proper cultural procedures” were not followed.

The comments quickly triggered outrage across social media and among sections of the public, with many Ghanaians condemning the remarks as reckless and inflammatory. Critics accused Lutterodt of exploiting an already sensitive situation surrounding the late musician’s burial arrangements and potentially fueling tension among communities.

Law enforcement authorities moved swiftly after the footage began trending online. Police sources confirmed that Lutterodt was arrested for questioning as part of an ongoing investigation into the potential impact of his statements.

He has since been charged with offensive conduct conducive to a breach of the peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). Prosecutors are also expected to pursue an additional charge of inciting violence under provisions of both the Criminal Offences Act and the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).

Authorities say the arrest is part of broader efforts to prevent disturbances, particularly as tensions remain high amid reported family disagreements over the final burial arrangements of Daddy Lumba.

Meanwhile, public reaction to Lutterodt’s arrest has remained sharply divided. While some supporters argue he was merely expressing cultural concerns, critics insist his comments crossed a dangerous line and could have triggered unrest if left unchecked.

The court appearance on Wednesday is expected to determine whether Lutterodt will be granted bail as investigations continue. Observers say the case could set an important precedent on the limits of public commentary in emotionally charged national matters.
