I Want Genuine Fans, Not Trend Followers -Burna Boy

Nigerian music superstar and Grammy winner Burna Boy has once again become a trending topic after offering unfiltered commentary about his relationship with fans during an Instagram Live broadcast.

Speaking directly to viewers, the “City Boys” crooner pushed back against claims that he dismisses or looks down on his supporters. He noted that following an artist should be a personal choice, not something driven by pressure, entitlement, or social media expectations. According to him, true support comes naturally and doesn’t require constant validation.

Burna Boy went on to say that he prefers listeners who genuinely connect with his artistic evolution, rather than people who latch onto him for clout or because he’s currently in the spotlight. He also sparked further conversation when he remarked that if he attracted new fans at this point in his career, he would rather they be financially comfortable—suggesting that criticism often comes loudest from those dealing with personal struggles.

His comments arrive on the heels of another controversy: the singer recently made headlines after removing an audience member from his show for allegedly sleeping during the performance. The incident divided the internet, with some arguing that the move protected the atmosphere of the event, while others viewed it as unnecessarily harsh.

As reactions continue to unfold online, Burna Boy appears unfazed, maintaining that authenticity—both in his music and his fanbase—remains his top priority.
