The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) marked this year’s Ghana Culture Week with a grand culinary showcase, highlighting the nation’s diverse cultural heritage. The event, dubbed “Taste 68 @ 68”, took place on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park Gardens in Accra.
Bringing together key stakeholders from the tourism and creative arts industries, the food festival featured 68 traditional Ghanaian dishes, symbolizing the country’s 68th independence anniversary.
A Celebration of Ghanaian Cuisine and Culture
The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, was the Guest of Honour, joined by top executives of the Ghana Tourism Authority, including its CEO and Deputy CEO. Addressing attendees, the Minister emphasized the importance of embracing Ghana’s culinary heritage, describing the event as a platform to experience and preserve the nation’s unique food traditions.
“This festival is more than just a feast; it’s a celebration of identity, unity, and our collective efforts in promoting domestic tourism, agribusiness, and cultural exchange,” she stated.
Showcasing Ghana’s Culinary Identity
GTA CEO Maame Efua Houadjeto reinforced the agency’s commitment to promoting local cuisine as a key aspect of national heritage.
“Ghanaian food represents the very soul of our culture. From the tantalizing aromas of our diverse dishes to the pulsating rhythms of our traditional music and artistry, today’s event allows us to fully immerse ourselves in our rich heritage,” she remarked.
She further encouraged Ghanaians to take pride in their local delicacies and embrace their health benefits, aligning with GTA’s ongoing “Wear Ghana, Feel Ghana” campaign, which aims to strengthen national identity through food, fashion, and culture.
A Feast with a Competitive Edge
A major highlight of the festival was a celebrity cooking competition, which saw well-known figures from Ghana’s creative arts industry, including Uncle Ato, Victoria Lebene, Mr Beautiful, Joyce Blessing, and Okyeame Kwame, showcasing their culinary skills in a friendly showdown.
Strengthening Ghana’s Global Appeal
The Taste 68 @ 68 Food Fair forms part of the broader Black Star Experience Initiative, a strategic effort to position Ghana as the Gateway to Africa. Through such cultural showcases, the GTA and its partners continue to promote Ghana’s rich traditions, vibrant hospitality, and diverse heritage, ensuring the country remains a top destination on the global tourism map.
