
Nollywood Mourns as Veteran Actor and Lecturer Columbus Irisoanga Passes Away
The Nigerian film industry has been hit with a major loss following the passing of veteran Nollywood actor and university lecturer, Columbus Irisoanga.
His death was confirmed by actress Hilda Dokubo, who took to social media to express her grief. “There can’t be a shortage of angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on us. Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood,” she lamented.
Beyond his contributions to Nollywood, Irisoanga was a respected academic, serving as a senior lecturer in the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Port Harcourt. He played a significant role in nurturing young talent, shaping the next generation of actors and creative minds.
Irisoanga is best remembered for his unforgettable portrayal of the chief priest “Igbudu” in the 2001 classic Isakaba, a role that cemented his legacy in the Nigerian film industry. His powerful performances and dedication to the craft kept him active in Nollywood until his passing.
His death has left a deep void in both the entertainment and academic communities, with colleagues, students, and fans paying tribute to his enduring influence.
