Industry Stakeholders Endorse Dzifa Gomashie for Ministerial Role in Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts is at the center of industry discourse as prominent stakeholders and media personalities rally behind Abla Dzifa Gomashie as the ideal candidate for the ministerial role. The former Deputy Minister in the same sector under the John Dramani Mahama-led administration is being lauded for her experience, qualifications, and deep understanding of the creative industry.

This conversation dominated weekend entertainment shows across various media platforms, including Joy FM’s flagship program. Renowned journalist Francis Doku and respected playwright and events consultant George Quaye were among those who endorsed Gomashie.

Speaking on United Showbiz, George Quaye passionately advocated for her appointment, emphasizing that the NDC government cannot afford to experiment with inexperienced leadership in its second term.

“If there is any government that doesn’t have time, it is this government. This is not the time to try people,” Quaye stated. He praised former President Mahama’s strategic use of experienced individuals in his appointments, adding, “If you look at the trend, the man is using a lot of wisdom to select people. The man is looking at experience.”

Quaye further highlighted Gomashie’s dual expertise in arts and tourism as a rare asset. “This is an industry that says it wants one of us, and we have one of us in there already who, beyond everything else, has the experience. She does not have only experience in Arts but also in Tourism,” he noted.

Addressing industry sentiments, Quaye advised that Mahama’s focus should be on competence and past performance rather than public preferences. “Mahama cannot follow the sentiments of the people in the industry; then you’ll choose people they want. But for a party that does not have time, you need someone who has been there before, who has learned from their experience, so that they are supported by the people who are around.”

Francis Doku shared similar sentiments on Joy FM’s Entertainment Show, aligning with George Quaye’s perspective on the need for seasoned leadership in the creative sector.

The endorsements come at a time when stakeholders in the creative arts industry are keenly watching the NDC’s ministerial appointments, with many expressing confidence in Gomashie’s ability to drive growth and innovation in the sector.

Gomashie’s previous tenure as Deputy Minister saw significant contributions to the creative arts, making her a familiar and trusted figure among industry professionals. Her potential return as Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts is being described as a step in the right direction for the sector’s development under the NDC government.

As the conversation gains momentum, all eyes remain on the NDC leadership to make a decision that aligns with the growing calls from within the industry.
