Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Sekondi and Minister for Tourism, has been ousted in a closely contested election.
According to provisional results, the New Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Blay Nyameke Armah, emerged victorious, defeating Egyapa Mercer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Egyapa Mercer received 11,084 votes, which accounted for 42.94% of the total valid votes, while Blay Nyameke Armah secured 14,558 votes, representing 56.40%.
A total of 25,813 votes were cast in the election, with 171 ballots rejected. The NDC had previously held the Sekondi seat in 1996 under the late Albert Bosomtwi Sam.
Egyapa Mercer had previously won the seat in both the 2016 and 2020 elections after Papa Owusu Ankomah opted not to seek re-election.
