Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known in entertainment circles as A Plus, has successfully transitioned from music to politics, clinching the Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat in the Central Region.
The independent candidate and social commentator defeated the incumbent Member of Parliament, Naana Eyiah Quansah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a tightly contested race.
A Plus garnered an impressive 14,277 votes, surpassing Naana Eyiah Quansah’s 11,637 by a margin of over 2,000 votes.
The other parliamentary candidates collectively received 10,112 votes, highlighting the strong support for A Plus in the constituency.
Reports suggest that the outspoken musician and politician took to the streets to celebrate his victory just hours after polls closed, even before the Electoral Commission had officially declared the results.
Videos circulating online showed jubilant scenes of supporters cheering as A Plus joined them in marking the historic moment.
A Plus’s journey to Parliament has been marked by his vocal activism and advocacy on social and political issues. Known for his bold critiques of political leadership in Ghana, his win is being interpreted by some as a vote of confidence in his commitment to driving change and representing the interests of the youth and marginalized groups.
This victory signals a shift in the political dynamics of Gomoa Central, a constituency that has long been dominated by the two main political parties, the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). With A Plus’s triumph, many are eager to see how his entry into Parliament will shape legislative discourse in Ghana.
Political analysts have noted that A Plus’s grassroots campaign strategy and his ability to resonate with the concerns of ordinary citizens played a pivotal role in securing his win.
