The Ghana Culture Forum (GCF) has officially launched a new website designed to serve as a hub for information and resources on Ghanaian arts, culture, and heritage. The unveiling took place on November 26, 2024, at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, drawing a gathering of cultural stakeholders and enthusiasts.
The newly launched website is envisioned as a dynamic platform to educate, inform, and engage users on Ghana’s rich cultural legacy while fostering a deeper appreciation for the country’s creative arts sector.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Ghana Culture Forum, Nana Otuo Owoahene Acheampong, underscored the importance of the website as a tool for effective engagement and outreach. “For any organization in today’s world, having an active and resourceful website is non-negotiable. Without it, you’re essentially operating in the dark. We encourage everyone to contribute to making this platform vibrant and impactful,” he stated.
He further revealed plans for the forum’s 2025 program rollout, hinting at a year filled with advocacy-driven initiatives and activities aimed at elevating Ghana’s cultural and creative industries. “In January 2025, we will announce our key focus areas for the year, staying true to our mission of advocacy and cultural promotion,” he added.
A Programmes Officer for Culture in Ghana, who also spoke at the launch, highlighted the pivotal role UNESCO played in the establishment of the Ghana Culture Forum. He called on industry stakeholders to maximize the potential of the website as a unifying space for cultural discourse and education.
“This platform provides an opportunity to reach young people, helping them discover their cultural identity, appreciate their heritage, and take pride in who they are no matter where they find themselves,” he noted. He also mentioned that the website could host valuable resources, such as African history written from the perspective of Africans, a significant project championed by UNESCO.
The Ghana Culture Forum is committed to strengthening the capacities of professionals in the cultural sector through research, advocacy, and policy development. By championing key legislative reforms and initiatives, the forum aims to drive progress within Ghana’s cultural and creative industries.
