Bukom Banku Breaks Silence on Viral Video, Denies Assault Allegations

Ghanaian retired boxer Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, has addressed the allegations of assault circulating on social media after a video surfaced showing him in a heated altercation with a woman believed to be his former girlfriend.

The 29-second clip, shared on the X platform by EDHUB, shows Bukom Banku, dressed in a kaftan, apparently striking the woman while onlookers urged him to stop. The incident was eventually broken up, sparking public outrage and calls for accountability.

In a video response, Bukom Banku denied assaulting the woman, explaining the circumstances surrounding the altercation. Speaking in Ga, the retired boxer said:

“Ghanaians, have you seen that post about me? The person who posted it thinks he wants to tarnish my image, but it didn’t work. Ghanaians have witnessed that I didn’t throw my hands. I respect myself in this country, and people love me, so I didn’t throw my hands.”

Bukom Banku explained that the woman, whom he identified as his former girlfriend, had been verbally attacking him and others associated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) whenever they passed her kenkey and fish stall. He claimed he approached her to inquire about the insults, only for the situation to escalate.

“She poured pepper on my face. So, I held her clothes, and she started beating me. Her siblings also came from behind and started beating me, and then her husband gave me a blow to the face,” he recounted.

The retired boxer further emphasized that despite the provocation, he restrained himself and did not retaliate with physical violence.

“So, Ghanaians, have you seen now that Bukom Banku didn’t throw any punches? I controlled my temper,” he asserted.

Bukom Banku also dismissed claims that he had been involved in previous violent incidents, describing them as false and rooted in jealousy of his success.

The incident has once again placed the controversial figure under public scrutiny, with mixed reactions from the public. While some commend him for his restraint, others question the circumstances that led to the confrontation.

As investigations continue, the former boxer remains adamant about his innocence, urging Ghanaians to focus on the truth rather than speculation.
