Speaking during a visit to the site ahead of the December 7 general elections, Dr. Bawumia remarked, “According to the management of the Trade Fair, this project will be ready in the next eight months. By the grace of God, I am looking forward to commissioning this facility in September 2025.”
His confidence stems from the upcoming elections, noting that if he is elected as President, he will oversee the project’s launch.
The Vice President emphasized the significance of the centre, describing it as a pivotal development for the creative arts and tourism sectors. The facility, designed to accommodate 20,000 attendees and featuring a 5,000-square-metre pre-event lobby, is expected to address long-standing issues such as limited seating for events.
Dr. Bawumia highlighted the economic benefits of the centre, stating, “This project is essential for our nation’s growth. Tourism and the creative arts are vital pillars of our economy. Currently, venues with limited capacities of around 3,000 seats force artists and event organizers to charge higher ticket prices, reducing profitability.
“With this new 20,000-capacity convention and exhibition centre—nearly ten times the size of existing venues—we will open up opportunities for large-scale events, international conferences, and exhibitions. This will significantly enhance the creative arts industry and tourism landscape in Ghana.”
He assured stakeholders that the facility, which will meet world-class standards, would be ready within the stipulated timeline, promising a transformative boost to the country’s creative and tourism industries.
