Seasoned writers William Asiedu and David Mawuli have been voted as President and Research Officer respectively of the Arts and Tourism Writers Association of Ghana (ATWAG).

The Association, which has been in existence for the past 10 years, successfully held its first ever general elections on Saturday, December 16, 2017.

The elections came off at the Academic City in Accra, with members contesting for various positions including President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser, Public Relations Officer and Research Office.

Managing Editor of the Daily Heritage newspaper William Asiedu was elected as president of ATWAG after contesting unopposed.

The Vice-President position went to Francis Doku of the Graphic Showbiz after he managed to accrue more votes than his competitor, Livingstone Lotsu.

Hitz FM’s Frank Kwabena Owusu was also elected as the Treasurer of the Association, with Mic Yamoah of Flex newspaper emerging as the Secretary.

The position of Organiser was keenly contested between Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah (Attractive)and Isaac Kwaku Kpogeh, but the former stood tall after the voting process.

Pulse.com.gh’s David Mawuli was also elected as Research Officer of ATWAG, despite stiff competition from Vivian Abigail Oppong of the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

There was, however, a tie for the position of Public Relations Officer with Citi FM’s Kwame Dadzie and Peacefmonline’s Eugene Osarfo-Nkansah polling 19 voted each.

The ATWAG elections were supervised by the Electoral Commission, who were ably represented by Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo.
