Ghanaian veteran filmmaker Socrates Safo has revealed that he is elated that for the past week people within the creative arts sector have been lobbying the president to get a creative art person to head the sector as minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
Speaking in an interview with attractivemustapha.com, Socrates Safo said he will like to urge members within the industry to use the same energy to lobby the government so people within the arts can occupy the various agencies under the sector.
According to him, most of the creative arts jobs needed to be done are not at the ministry but rather the agencies under the ministry.
”If an industry person is appointed as a minister and politicians together with other technocrats control the agencies then it will be useless. The main problem has been those who run the various agencies under the Ministry”.
” All the agencies under the sector are geared towards the creative arts and most often the people who occupy the agencies don’t understand art and even how they can effectively improve creative arts. ”
He concluded that people in the industry must lobby to occupy the agencies under the art and not just focus on the Minister and deputy position.
