The Ministry of Education says they have no intention to approve and implement the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Programme as part of a new curriculum for basic schools in the country.

PRO for the Education Ministry Vincent Assafuah in an interview with Joy FM said the Ghana Education Service and his Ministry have no intention to approve the said controversial document.

“I am trying to tell you that the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education have no intention of approving any document in relation to Comprehensive Sexuality Education, I’m saying anybody can bring out a guideline and say it’s the government of Ghana, I’m refuting it that it’s not a document from the Ghana Education Service…..”

Some churches, parents and civil society groups have kicked against the new comprehensive sexuality education programme five days after the guideline for the programme was released.

Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council have also threatened to vote out any political leadership that implements the Comprehensive Sexual Education Programme for basic schools in the country.

According to the Council, they will not accept the new programme because its content is contrary to the teachings of the scriptures.

President for the Council, Rev. Dr. Paul Frimpong-Manso said, ” We the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council are totally opposed to it, none of our teachers will teach that, we will walk our children out and any government who will promote it, it will be a tool for them to walk out, we train people to bring leadership already corruption is destroying our country, we have many diseases and we have to find ways of solving them not teaching people how to be gays and lesbians which is contrary to the scriptures..”

Beginning next year, pupils in all public schools, including 6-year-olds will be given Comprehensive Sexuality Education.

Officials say the subject content would, however, be age-appropriate, so the toddlers would be empowered with values that would protect them from sexual harassment.
