Tourism Ministry launches 4th edition of Ghana Carnival and Homofest (Video)

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has launched the Ghana Carnival and Homofest 2018 at the Accra City Hotel in Accra.

The launch which brought together many stakeholders in the arts industry aims at providing a platform for the celebration of the very best of Ghanaian Culture and Music. It will also afford local companies the opportunity to showcase their products and services to participants.

Delivering her speech at the launch of the event, the sector Minister, Madam Catherine Abelema Afeku, said the carnival is an annual event on the tourism calendar of Ghana started in 2013. She said due to its success over the years the ministry has decided to add value and make it a more visible and viable event.
Touching on the theme of the event which is “Using Arts and Culture to promote our economy”, the minister said it is about time Ghana use her culture through carnivals to push her economic status forward. This she said can be possible when people show much interest and participate in the events as it will also enable them have a fair idea of the country’s local products, food and other services.
She said both the Carnival and Hhomofest create employment opportunities and transform the lives of people.
“Data collected and analyzed from previous events showed that the ministry and its partners are achieving the objective of the events in terms of creating enabling environment for domestic tourism through the promotion of arts and culture,” she stated.
The two events are being organized by the Ministry in conjunction with the implementing agencies and stakeholders including the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and other corporate bodies.
