Curtains have finally been drawn on the 19th edition of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) with a jam on Saturday, April 28, 2018.

The concert which took place at the Black Stars Square climaxed the hype, excitement and allegations which surrounded the entire 2018 VGMAs.

This year’s awards scheme, organized by Charterhouse Productions subsequently came off Saturday April 14, 2018, exactly two weeks ago at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) where scores of music lovers thronged the venue to witness a night of captivating performances and plaque presentations to well-deserving artistes nominated in the year under review.

Hosted by TV and Radio Personality Berla Mundi alongside Ghanaian actor John Dumelo, this year’s event did not end without yet another barrage of controversies and dissatisfaction echoed by a section of the public and stakeholders who challenged the turn of events.

Notable among the concerns raised was the “Most Popular Song” of the Year award which was snatched by Northern Region’s superstar, Fancy Gadam based on votes, to the surprise of Swedru-based musician Patapaa Amisty who was tipped to win in that category with his “One Corner” hit song.

However, the ‘bitter pill’ was swallowed with hopes of winning in the years ahead and, as days turned into weeks the confusion calmed and every resentment was quashed.

The 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Celebration concert was therefore held to officially close the chapter on this year’s awards event.

The well-attended concert saw performances from a line-up of musicians including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, KelvinBoy, Samini, Kwesi Arthur, Joyce Blessing, B4Bonah, Strongman and the trio of the Lynx Family, KiDi, Kuami Eugene and MzVee.

Patapaa just like all the other entertainers was welcomed by a rapturous crowd when he mounted the stage in his infamous over-sized suit which he debuted at the awards night weeks ago.

What was different this time is that he was not subjected to mockery but instead won the hearts of spectators who could not wait to jam to his newly collaborated songs amidst cheers.

The concert which was earlier slated to take place in Tema was hosted by GhOne TV presenter Amanda Jissih in Accra.

Gates were open to the general public for free.

The Ghana Music Awards organized by Charterhouse Productions which is undoubtedly the most popular entertainment event in Ghana was preceded by a nominees’ jam in Cape Coast on March 24 followed with a music seminar at the Movënpick Ambassador Hotel on April 12.
