A book reading clinic has been organised for children from selected basic schools in Accra.
The event hosted by the wife of the Vice President, Samira Bawumia was to mark World Book Day.
The clinic which saw astute Ghanaian authors read to the children comes on the back of complaints of extremely poor reading habits in Ghana especially among students.
A 2007 report on the National Education Assessment Tests in English for primary three and six pupils in the country, revealed poor performance of public schools in literacy skills in English language.
This, Mrs Bawumia said is unacceptable.
She said the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project which she heads, is working to improve reading habit in children by distributing reading books to basic schools in the country.
