Royal Family: Twitter goes wild after the Queen ‘asks for Cristiano Ronaldo’s Man Utd shirt’ – but it turns out to be false

The Queen is one of the only people in the country you would not expect to be starstruck.

From the Spice Girls to Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth has met her fair share of famous faces during her reign.

One famous person that the Queen hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting is arguably the greatest footballer of all time, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo recently completed one of the most surprising moves in Premier League history by joining Manchester United for the upcoming season.

One fan that many didn’t expect was her Royal Highness the Queen. Rumours flew about across social media that the Queen had made a request to Manchester United for 80 of Ronaldo’s new football jerseys for herself and staff.

The Queen reportedly even wanted the first top to be especially reserved for her, signed by the goal scorer himself.

Manchester United fans were ecstatic and fan pages on Twitter couldn’t hold back their excitement.

Manchester United’s fan channel, The United Stand, tweeted: “Queen Elizabeth has personally requested that Man United reserve the first shirt to be signed by Cristiano Ronaldo, meaning Ronaldo becomes the only human being Queen Elizabeth has asked for an autograph.”

Another excited Red Devil tweeted: “This is the best story of the year. The Queen is actually asking for Ronaldo’s autograph. That has to make him better than Messi now!”

Were the rumours all they seemed?

The initial rumour came from the Sport Innovation Society on Twitter, who pride themselves on quick sporting information and innovation in the sporting world.

However, it turned out the information was not true, and they said they ‘could not confirm the veracity of the note from the Queen’ and Ronaldo.

Their Twitter account released an apology and took down the original claim that the Queen had ordered 80 jerseys.

Although they came out and deleted their claims, it was not before a frenzy on social media began and the story was picked up by several publications such as Sport Bible and the Express.

Manchester United fans will definitely be disappointed to hear that their hero’s autograph wasn’t requested by Her Majesty the Queen.

The disappointment surely won’t last long as Cristiano has just become the all time top scoring international ever… hopefully he can help heal their initial let down.
