Rev. Dr. Abena Tay Urge Women to focus on their health Needs

The President of Daughters Ministries International, Lady Rev. Dr. Abena Tay has urged women to be focused on their health needs to conquer their fears in life. She said most women are hording up fears of sicknesses, varying cancers and weakness as they approach their forties and fifties. She further noted that most Ghanaian women are battling with marital or family problems, struggling to make ends meet for their families, coupled with the desire to achieve career targets, meet work demands or satisfy their spouses, children and family needs.

“The fear of losing a loved one, the fear of being accused or labeled as an irresponsible mother and other social factors has broadened the burden on women in our current society”, she stressed.
According to her, this trepidation has caused fear and anxiety amongst many Ghana women thereby speeding up their aging process than normal.

Lady Rev. Dr. Abena Tay made these observations in a message to women in commemoration of the World Mother’s day which falls on the second Sunday of May every year. This year’s celebration falls on 14th May 2017.
She has therefore urged women to take charge of their personal lives and engage in healthy activities that will promote good and healthy lifestyles whist exercising their faith in Christ Jesus.
She further urged women to engage in activities that will promote their health status so that they will not become a burden to society or their immediate families.
She again observed that most women have become vulnerable and are easily attacked or infected with different diseases that make their lives more burdensome. Lady Reverend Dr. Abena Tay however expressed deep concern at the rising number of women affected by breast cancer, cervical cancer and other related cancers.
She however said she is deeply concerned with the number of breast cancer cases affecting women in Ghana.
Lady Rev. Dr. Tay said statistics provided by the Ghana Health Services indicate that more 3500 women die annually in Ghana as a result of breast cancer. She described the statistics as alarming and a clarion call to women to seek early medical attention to avoid becoming incapacitated. She said most women have been traumatized after being diagnosed with breast cancer adding that some women have been neglected by their families because they claim breast cancer is a disease caused by deities, demons and other spiritual forces.

“Some women in Ghana even believe breast cancer is a spiritual disease/sickness or punishment from deities, smaller gods, witches and wizards and demons etc” Lady Rev. Dr. Abena Tay submitted.

She added that “most women die of breast cancer due to ignorance. The level of ignorance among many women is very high making the diagnoses/treatment of breast cancer very difficult”.
