Reopened shops in Europe eagerly await the return of tourism

While business owners welcomed back local customers, many of them say their shops depend on the tourism industry to survive.

Some European countries have begun to ease lockdown restrictions.

Among those countries is Spain, where the death toll has now been revised down by nearly 2,000.

Tourism accounts for more than 12 percent of Spain’s economy.

Businesses are eagerly waiting for July, when the country is scheduled to reopen its borders to international visitors.

Al Jazeera’s Katia Lopez Hoda-Yan reports.
