NIB donates GHC50,000 to five highlife music legends

The National Investment Bank (NIB) has donated GH¢50,000 cash towards the upkeep of five music legends – Nana Kwame Ampadu, Jackson Alfred Adofo Anto, Charles Kofi Amankwaah Mann, Jewel Ackah and A.B. Crentsil.

Each received GH¢10,000 to enable them to meet the demands of life, particularly after retirement, and also for the acknowledgment of the key role they played in enriching and sustaining the Ghanaian music industry through their timeless highlife music.

This was at the 2017 edition of the Annual MUSIGA Presidential Grand Ball, held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, under the patronage of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The donation, according to NIB, was to show appreciation to the legends for their immense contributions, not only to the country’s music industry, but also in helping shape mindsets towards national development, over the years.

Mr Alfred George Thompson, the Deputy Managing Director, who presented the cheques on behalf of NIB, said the gesture was crucial as the industry and its players have over the years worked together in a litany of ways in respect of national development.

Mr Thompson also challenged musicians of today, especially the youth, to focus on churning out thought-provoking music full of wisdom and inspire to shape the psyche of the Ghanaian as was done by musicians of old.

The event, which saw scores of music industry captains in attendance, provided the opportunity for interaction among colleagues and the President, especially. Guests were entertained with musical performances from Daddy Lumba, Becca, Wutah and Freddie Meiway.
