Dancehall star Shatta Wale has debunked viral reports that he charged the government an amount of GH¢100,000 to perform at the Covid-19 Virtual Concert.

Prior to the concert, some Ghanaians described the entertainment component of the event to launch the Covid-19 Tracker App as unnecessary and a waste of the tax payers’ money.

They alleged the government pumped huge amounts into the needless fanfare, which could otherwise have been used to procure extra PPEs for frontline Covid-19 workers.

It’s been widely speculated that all musicians who performed at the concert were paid GH¢40,000 with Shatta Wale pocketing a cool GH¢100,000 for his trouble.

Setting the records straight via a Facebook live video, Shatta Wale described the claims as palpable falsehood, stressing such stories have been cooked up to let him look bad and unpatriotic.

“Why do people lie like that? U see me, people have said me I like money, Yes! I like money bad, but when my country needs me to perform in these difficult times, there is no way I will choose money first,” the ‘My Level’ hitmaker noted.

“When they talk about patriotic people I am one of them, I am very patriotic, I like to support my country.”

The popular musician said the call to support the concert for free came from a big man he respects so much, noting he willingly agreed to the request without talking about money.

“My God-father called to say the ministry wants to do something and I am one of the main people to have done a virtual concert and that they would love to involve me and I agreed to do it for free…I did it for free because I know where that thing go fit take me go.”
