Guru details grooming Strongman, Eno, Wutah…. and his legacy

-

Guru is undoubtedly one of the old names in the Ghanaian entertainment industry whose contribution cannot be overlooked. On 3FM Drive, Guru listed artists he has nurtured under his label and the legacy he hopes to engrave in history.

About his label’s history with Strongman, Guru indicated there was no bad blood between them when Strongman signed under Sarkodie’s label.

“The time he was in UCC, he was under the label. We took care of him when he was in Cape Vas. We tried assisting him in so many things. With that, you see we wanted him to finish school. We never wanted to enforce certain things on him. So we gave him the freedom to operate.”

According to Guru, indulging in artiste management did not yield any profits in his coffers. He explained that one cannot force an artiste to stay if they decide to leave when they feel they have made it and can take the controls.
“None of the works I did had a certain benefit for my pocket. The reason is I can take you to a certain level with my financial prowess. I will give you comfort. I will give you the hype you need. Use my own page to operate and protect your brand. Push the money in and make it look the kind of level you see yourself. But when it gets to the peak stage and the artiste goes like I want to leave the label, what do you do?” Guru asked Giovani.

“I had, I think, six or seven artistes under the label. Strongman, Eno, Wutah, Ofori Amponsah, Singlet, King Paluta and Kwesi Swart. It’s a big investment. You have to take them to Dubai to shoot their video. A young artiste whom you don’t know if you will be able to reach the standard… The legacy I want to build is that one-day people will remember me for not being that selfish artiste who always invests in himself and neglects others,” the Lapaz Toyota hitmaker concluded.
