Government expects about 450,000 tourists before end of year – Akwasi Agyeman (GTA)

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman has disclosed that the Government of Ghana expects about 450,000 tourists into Ghana before the end of the year and after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted for travelers to come into the country.

Speaking in an interview, monitored by Ghanaian Journalist and  blogger Attractive Mustapha Nii okai Inusah , he said that they are engaging the Ghana Airport Authorities, the airlines, and Civil Aviation Authority to outline the best practices before the country opens up for people to fly in.

‘’people have suggested that we give out COVID-19 certificate for tourists before they can fly but the issue is that people get the certificate and they end up getting the virus in the flight so all the suggestions coming in are being looked at‘’, he added.

He continued that Other countries have opened up slightly so the government is also looking at that possibility and also looking at a general protocol for the industry so it is not just about people coming in by flight into the country which is being discussed but other things including ECOWAS Protocols.

Giving the number of travelers that came into the country last year, he said that the number of arrivals last year was 1.13million and this year the Government is projecting 45,000 which is less than half of last years number.

He was quick to add  that ,government did better the first half of this year before the COVID-19 outbreak.
