The Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency (also a former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie) has talked about how challenging it is for a deputy minister to make a change in governance.

When asked by Frema Adunyame on Citi TV’s ‘Upside Down’ if her appointment as Deputy Minister and the recent appointment of Mark Okraku Mantey to the same position is an indication that people in the arts are gradually being accepted into leadership, she said it is rather a token.

“It’s good but it’s a token and [as] deputy minister, you don’t make the decision. I am wishing Mark well. You don’t take the decision and it doesn’t matter if what you are saying is what should be done,” the former actress noted.

For a long time, people in showbiz have advocated that creative arts be appointed to charge of the Ministry.

When Nana Akufo-Addo was re-elected for his second term, he named music producer Mark Okraku Mantey as the Deputy Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture.

After his appointment, some said that even though people in the arts were happy one of their own had been chosen, they should not expect too much from him because he would not have the power to make things happen.
