Ghanaian celebrities who died in 2016 and 2017

Deaths can generally be very shocking and unexpected. In Ghana, celebrity deaths are especially heartbreaking for many people who take them as a stark reminder of the transience of life.

Bob Santo, Suzzy Williams, Margaret “Araba Stamp” Quainoo, Terry Bonchacha, Kwame Owusu Ansah, Michael Dwamena, and Paa Bobo are among the big name celebrities who have left this world.

In 2016 and 2017, many more of our adored celebrities joined them:

1. Bob Okala

Ace comedian Samuel Kwadwo Buabeng, popularly known as Bishop Bob Okala, died in March 2016 at the Eastern Regional Hospital. He was performing at an event when he collapsed and gave up the ghost.

2. Nii Odoi Mensah

The actor and former president of the Ghana actor’s guild died on April 12, 2016, in China, where he had gone to undergo a kidney transplant.

He had been battling kidney disease for months.

3. MC Flava Pounds

The Efiewura TV series actor, Lucky Azasoo-Nkornoo, aka Mc Flava Pounds, died after a short illness on May 4, 2016.

4. Nkomode

Comedian Yaw Donkor, popularly known as Nkomode, passed away on February 5, 2016, after battling kidney, liver problems and bladder failure.

5. Danny Nettey

The popular gospel musician died on July 15, 2016. He was reportedly found unconscious in his home at about 2am and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was 47.

6. Christopher Opoku

The popular sports presenter died on May 10, 2017 in London, where he had sought treatment for cancer. He was 42.

7. Kwadwo Asare-Baffour Acheampong (KABA)

The popular broadcaster with Asempa FM died on Saturday, November 18, 2017. He was reportedly rushed to the hospital after falling unconscious.

It is not immediately clear what led to his death, but he was believed to be diabetic. He was 37.

8. Awurama Badu

The veteran highlife musician died on October 26, 2017 after a short illness. She was 72.

9. Paapa Yankson

The highlife great died on July 21, 2017. He reportedly died in his sleep at 73. May the souls of these great sons and daughter of Ghana rest in perfect peace.
