Ghana Tourism Authority set for first women in tourism summit

The Ghana Tourism Authority in partnership with the African Tourist Partners, South Africa is set to organise the maiden edition of the Women in tourism summit at the Accra International Conference Centre on June 21, 2018.

The summit, the first ever in Ghana, would be on the theme: “Driving women empowerment through tourism development.”

A release issue on Tuesday in Accra said the summit will be an annual event that will give women in tourism an opportunity to network and learn more about issues relating to funding, investment, and marketing, running of business, and leadership across the entire tourism value chain.

It said globally, tourism was being leveraged in Ghana to mitigate gender inequality and the GTA aimed at driving women empowerment in Ghana, especially in tourism development through the women in tourism summit.

It said the summit was an opportunity for women operating across the entire tourism value chain to meet their counterparts, share knowledge and learn from each other to transform the tourism economy to become a fundamental pillar in advancing the role of women tourism entrepreneurs, professionals and leaders.

According to the release, a welcome cocktail would precede the event at the Accra Tourist Information Centre (ATIC) on June 20, 2018.

Speakers for the main event were, the Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture, Mrs. Catherine Afeku, Minister for Gender and Children Affairs, Otiko Afisah Djaba, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwesi Agyeman, President, Women In Tourism, Ghana, Nancy Sam Quartey.

The rest were, International Operations, Dubai Tourism (Africa Market), Sella Fubara-Obinwa and Founder, Evolving Women Assia Riccio-Smith, .

Topic for panel discussions for the event include “Understanding the Ecosystem of destination marketing to grow your business – An unexplored opportunities for women empowerment, Building a sustainable hospitality industry through women leadership development; Women in tourism: Opportunities and challenges and many impactful discussions that will be adapted to mainstream women’s role in Ghana’s socio-economic development through tourism.

The release further said, the summit will bring together women game-changers, mission – driven companies and individuals, professionals, and leaders in tourism.
