Ghana Fire Service reveals cause of fire at Beverley Afaglo’s house

The origin of the fire that destroyed Ghanaian actress Beverley Afaglo’s home in Community 9 in Tema, Accra, is still unknown.

The fire, which burned for hours and sprayed thick smoke into the evening sky, drew a large crowd to the scene, but all efforts to save the situation failed.

However, there is still debate as to what might have created the circumstance.

According to preliminary investigations by the Ghana National Incident Service (GNFS), the fire was started by an open fire on the premises.

The house was burned as a result of someone burning stuff in a property behind the residence, according to the Tema Fire Service.

The fire department also revealed that the property was heavily engulfed in flames before they arrived.

Divisional Officer Grade I Timothy Affum, Tema Deputy Regional Fire Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), told DGN Online that his unit received a call at 3:30 p.m. on August 9, 2021, reporting a fire outbreak at a residence in Community 9 in Tema, and they responded promptly.

Three fire tenders from Tema Region, Ashaiman, and the Industrial Area, as well as water tankers, were despatched to the spot to put out the fire, which had been burning for more than two hours when the fire officers arrived.

At around 4 p.m., he said, the fire was brought under control by a team of fire officials and men, three fire tenders, and one water tanker.

However, he stated that the fire had been totally extinguished by 5:46 p.m.

“Despite the fact that the fire was out of control when we were contacted, we were able to save the situation and prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring properties,” DOG 1 Affum said. When we arrived, the structure was completely engulfed in flames, indicating that they had not contacted us in a timely manner.”

“Our preliminary inquiry suggests that the fire started as a consequence of someone burning stuff at the compound, an area similar to a garden behind the home but in the same premises, and that triggered the fire,” the Tema Deputy Regional Fire Chief said when asked what caused the fire. Although there is no proof of this, preliminary investigations indicate that this is the case.”
