Eating French fries could increase your risk of premature death

new study has found that eating French fries increases one’s risk of dying prematurely.

The study was conducted by researchers from National Research Council in Padova, Italy and was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Over a period of eight years, 4,440 participants were observed by a team of scientists. The participants were aged between 45 and 79.

Over the course of the study, a total of 236 of the participants died. The study found that those who eat more fries had a higher mortality rate.

The data which was analysed by Dr Nicola Veronese, who is the lead researcher, and his team found that “participants who consumed fried potatoes 2–3 times per week were at an increased risk of mortality.”
The study thus concluded that “the frequent consumption of fried potatoes appears to be associated with an increased mortality risk.

Additional studies in larger sample sizes should be performed to confirm if overall potato consumption is associated with higher mortality risk.”

The study also found that those who consumed potatoes that were not fried did not stand the same risk as those who did.

There has been growing concern about the rise in consumption of fast food not just in developed countries but in developing world as more and more people enter the middle class, adopt Western lifestyles and have more disposable incomes.
