D – Black’s Band performs at Swedru Fancy Dress Festival (Video)

The annual festival sees children and adults wear masquerading colorful outfits with masks and dance to brass band tunes in the spirit of joyful celebration in unity.

Before the festival began, there were performances and fantastic displays from notable musicians and bands including the D Black band which belongs to popular musician Desmond Blackmore with the stage name D-Black.

The band leader Peter Dodzi and Blackmore said they were grateful patrons liked their performance.

Gifty Nelson, a backing vocalist and Raymond Decardi also said that they are glad to have been welcomed by the organizers of the festival and that they are willing to be part of the festival yearly.

Fancy Dress Festival is a continuation of a century-old tradition where adults and children wear colorful outfits and masks popularly known both at home and abroad as “Kaakamotobi” during the Christmas period to dance to brass band music.

The event, held at the Swedru Sports Stadium, was graced by thousands of people including tourists, chiefs, religious leaders, and the general public who witnessed exciting dance moves from the groups who competed among themselves.
